Hosta Blue Cadet, Krossa Regal, Fire Island and Queen Josephine
Queen Josephine is a sport of Josephine and her stand out feature is her beautiful shinny dark green leaves with bright lemon yellow margins; so glossy that they look wet. The plant is medium sized topping out at around 2 ½ feet wide and it’s loose vase shaped form reaches a little over 1 ½ feet tall. This medium fast grower waits till August to send up lavender flowers on 33” scapes.

Praying hands
One of the most unusual hosta around; extremely long, rippled dark green leaves have a waxy shine and a very thin yellow margin. The leaves are held straight upright and are folded and wavy, giving a twisted appearance.
These will never be mistaken for another hosta and they look interesting placed among the mounding hostas.
Light lavender flowers will appear midsummer. Amazing!
Each small 18″ wide clump resembles many hands folded in prayer.

This sport of H.’Pineapple Poll’ is a medium clump of long lance-shaped (4” x 10”) leaves and is wonderfully variegated.
The leaf emerges with a gold green center and a darker green margin and then depending on what kind of light it is in and progressing as the seasons change, it turns more gold and eventually near white. The leaves are ruffled and have very heavy substance.
The rapidly growing clump can be 2.5 feet wide, but is mounding rather than tall so it could be placed closer to the front.
Light lavender flowers appear in late July.
You gotta love the name.

Hosta Minuet Man
‘Minuteman’ is a ‘Francee’ sport. It is different from, but similar to ‘Patriot’.
The leaves are a little rounder and more cupped. They can be a little wavy and rippled. The leaves are broadly ovate with a rounded base and have good heavy substance. They are slightly shiny on top and dull grey below.
The size is 24 x 12″ with 18-30″ scapes. The color is very dark green with a smooth wide creamy-white margin.
The flowers appear in July and are tubular, pale lavender, and striped.

A nice unregistered medium sized hosta that gets about a 1 ½ feet tall and nearly 2 feet wide. It will really pop in your garden; with shiny, green, heart shaped leaves edged by wide borders of gold that change to creamy white as the leaves age. Light lavender flowers appear in June.

Hosta Lunar Orbit and Katherine Lewis, Bleeding Heart Gold Heart
Lunar Orbit is a sport of August moon that has rugose, cordate yellow leaves that are thick and leathery with blue green margins that occasionally streak in towards the center. Mature plants are about 2 ½ feet wide and a foot tall and the slug resistant leaves are about 7 x 5”. The 2 foot scapes bear pale lavender bells in July. This beauty can even take some sun.

Lamium Herman’s Pride, Hosta Island Charm, Fire Island, Temptation, Little Aurora, Elvis Lives
Little Aurora is one of the brightest gold hostas available and holds its color all summer. The mounding habit supports heart shaped leaves, that are cupped and slightly rugose, with good substance. A mature plant will be a foot tall and 2 feet wide. The flowers are lavender and are held on 1 foot scapes. The plant is fertile, and so will set seed pods. This plant will grow faster with some sun, but will hold its color better in a little shade.

Hosta Lancifolia
This is the old standby. We call it “Joe Hosta”. Soon you’ll be giving shovels full of it to your friends, because it increases rapidly.
‘Lancifolia’ was the first hosta introduced to Western botany. No one really knows where it originally came from but it showed up in 1692 by Kaempfer and then was taken to Holland in 1829 by Von Siebold. It is thought to come from the sieboldii line.
Mature plants are 2 feet across, a foot tall and mound shaped.
The lance-shaped leaves are about 5” x 3” and are smooth and a shiny. The top surface is a medium green and the underside is a glossy lighter green. The undulated leaves have 5-6 veins. The green scape has reddish dots on it.
The funnel-shaped violet flowers are striped. They bloom late, and are sterile. The plant looks similar to forcathayana which is fertile.
‘Lancifolia’ is both sun and drought tolerant but prefers light shade. Lancifolia is one of the first hostas to come up in the spring and one of the last to go dormant, making it one of the most reliable ground covers around. It is sometimes found under the names ‘Saji Giboshi’ or ‘Koba Giboshi’.
You will get plenty of extra eyes with this one.

Hosta Albomarginata aka Silver Crown, Knockout and Blue Cadet
Knockout has rounded intensely colored blue green leaves, with wide creamy white, undulating margins. It is a medium sized hosta with fertile lavender flowers. Other pluses include heavy substance and the ability to take a fair amount of sun.

‘Fire Island’ is a stand out with its iridescent yellow to lime green leaves, that are shiny on top and dull on the underside. The wavy leaves are pointy and lance shaped and about 7 x 4 inches. The fountain shaped plant remains small to medium in size. What really sets this hosta apart is the very red petioles, which hold their color for the entire season. The tube shaped flowers are lavender, and the fertile plant will produces green pods. Its parentage is longipes hypoglauca x ‘Crested Surf’
