Daylily Sonic Duck

Sonic Duck is a very tall (39 inch) dormant, tetraploid that has strong scapes to hold up the 8.5 inch, fragrant, pale yellow flowers.  An early mid-season rebloomer it is classified as unusual form with blossoms that are crispate and cascading. It has a bright red eye zone and a wide green throat. On the petals the eye zone is wide and cut by the yellow mid rib, but on the sepals it is a fine line giving the flowers an interesting star like appearance. 4 to 5 way branching with 22 to 38 buds means that this one really puts on a show. It is aptly named as the color is exactly that of a baby duck. Another bonus is foliage that always looks nice. This plant assumes a polymerous form more often than other plants (at least for me), meaning that may have extra sepals of petals.

Daylily Music Monkey

Music Monkey has a big (7 inch) bright tangerine orange, unusual form, crispate bloom. It twists and curls differently every time and has a ruffled edge and a red eye and a thin red edge over an orange eyezone that is just slightly lighter than the petals. It is a sturdy, 31 inch tall dormant tetraploid with 15 buds on one branch. It is a parent to my other favorite monkey…Pinewood Monkey Business.

This gorgeous unusual form, crispate is listed as brown with a brown eyezone however I would say that is more of a copper/orange with a subtle darker eyezone. It’s most impressive feature is it’s huge gold star shaped center. I’d say it covers at least half of the 7.25 inch bloom. The flower sometimes twists but often recurves, often to the point that you only see the orange copper from the side. The plant is 42 inches tall and blooms in the mid to late season. It is a semi-evergreen, diploid.

Bradley is a handsome daylily that has a mauve background brushed with purple streaks on the petals. The purple halo is star shaped as is the large green throat.The black stamens really stand out against that bright throat. He is 38 inches tall with a 7 inch, unusual form bloom that cascades. This mid-season blooming semi-evergreen diploid is a little fragrant.

This creamy white spider/unusual form daylily twists and turns in all directions because it is both crispate, cascading and spatulate. It is a dormant, diploid that is 27 inches tall with a 7 inch bloom and bud count; 12 buds on 2 branches. It is a mid-season bloomer. The bright green throat draws the eye to it and then the rest of it makes the observer say “wow!” Because they have species H. Citrina in their background they will have characteristics like vigor, fragrance and a nocturnal opening. They will open during the night and then last the whole next day.

Delta force is a big tough plant.  It’s 38 inches  tall with an 8.5 inch bloom.  A fairly early bloomer it is a dormant, tetraploid with 22 buds on four branches.  It is classified as unusual form; it is sometimes wide open and sometimes pinched or twisted.  The flowers are a handsome dark rosey purple with a darker plum purple eye above a green throat.

Daylily Seedling Plum Full

Unregistered seedling – Krentz/Matel – 2009

I grew these from seeds I got from a friend.  Seedling number: LKEast#3.  This semi-evergreen tetraploid is about 36 inches tall and sturdy, with a 6 inch bloom.  It is clear purple with a whitish edge, a large plum eye zone and a yellow, turning green, throat.  Sometimes some streaking and veining can be seen.  The petals sometime open wide and sometimes are pinched.  The stamens are really cool the filaments change from gold to plum and then the stigma is gold again.

This 9 inch unusual form is mauve to purple with a lavender water mark, a large green throat and a fine cream colored picotee. A dormant tetraploid she is 36 inches tall but sturdy enough to stand up.  The petals can be twisted, curled, flaired straight out or extreamly recurved.  Seedling #: LG2011#4.

Daylily Cameroons Twister

Cameroons Twister is a large (40 inches tall), showy dormant tetraploid.  The 7.5 inch fragrant flowers start blooming in the mid to late-season and then rebloom almost until frost, and there are plenty of them….40 buds on 5 branches.  The big fuchsia, crispate, unusual form flowers open wide in the base and show off a large baby pink eye zone over a green throat, while the ends of the petals are often pinched and twisted.  Cameroon is a country in Africa so I am curious how this show stopper got its name.
