Daylily Knickknack

By Hudson – 1983

Knickknack is truly the miniature daylily to beat all miniatures. At only 14 inches it is just covered with masses of tiny 1 ½ to 2 inch blooms. It starts blooming early and it just keeps going until frost. It is an orange-gold, Semi-Evergreen, Diploid, with a green throat. The parentage is (Tropical Sherbet × Munchkin Moon). It is quick growing and hardy. Sometimes the flowers don’t open all the way until afternoon, especially in cold weather, but they have such heavy substance that they are usually still good the second day. It also sets pods easily. I can’t wait to see what the seedlings look like.

Daylily Forty Second Street

Daylily Forty Second Street

Daylily Forty Second Street

Forty Second Street is a 5” double that will not be mistaken for anything else in your garden. The peachy cream blooms are shaped a little different each time, but always wonderfully ruffled and the contrast with the large rose eye zone and gold throat is beautiful. The plant reaches about 24” and is a mid-season re-bloomer that usually re-blooms in the late season. Though it is an evergreen diploid it has done well in our Wisconsin gardens.

Daylily Black Eyed Stella

Daylily Black Eyed Stella

This miniature cultivar has gold flowers with a deep orange-red eye-zone and grows to 15 inches tall with a 3 ¼ inch bloom. It has a nocturnal extended blooming habit and reliable re-bloom; it opens in the afternoon and closes the following morning or early afternoon, so it would be great in your moon garden. This daylily was a winner in the landscape category for All-American Daylily In 1994. Created from Stella De Oro, which is the most successful daylily ever, Black Eyed Stella was chosen from over 3000 seedlings. It does very well in extreme cold, but equally well in hot humid areas.
