Daylily Little Red Unknown

By Petit – 2006

Height 15” with 3 ½ inch blooms; zone 4.

This miniature daylily is small in stature as well as having lots of cute small flowers. The substance of the blooms is very heavy. These won’t melt after a rain and they don’t get spots on them from water either. They just hold and hold their rich velvety color.

Rich true red blooms are slightly fragrant.

Semi-evergreen; tetraploid.

Note:  This plant was originally given to us as Little Red Corvette or possibly Red Corvette and thanks to an astute customer we see that those cultivars should be larger with larger flowers.  For now we are selling it as an unknown.  I have contacted the original source to see if we can pin down the identity.

Daylily Little Peanut

By Winniford – 1985

Daylily Little Peanut

Daylily Little Peanut

This miniature daylily grows to only 15” with many, many 2 1/2” blooms. It is just too cute. A semi-evergreen diploid; it starts early and extends its bloom into the mid-season. The color is unusual and difficult to explain. I would call it a rusty red orange with some streaking and a purple halo, but please see the picture. There is a thick cream colored to yellow edge that is a little ruffled and a yellow throat. It has such a heavy substance that the flowers last long into the night and many times for two days. Because of this it is classified as nocturnal.

Daylily James Marsh

By Marsh-Klehm – 1978

James Marsh developed the “Chicago” series of tetraploids and the “Prairie” series of diploids. Daylily ‘James Marsh’ has a large, sun-fast red flower with a contrasting yellow throat. It also has a subtle change in color near the throat, turning fuchsia that really makes this round perfectly formed flower pop. Held atop 30” scapes, the 5 to 6” flower has heavy substance and rarely gets water spots. A dormant tetraploid, it starts blooming earlier than most and continues through the main season. Another bonus is the slight fragrance.

Here’s a great large-flowered red daylily with foliage that looks great all season.  The breeder selected it for its dark blue-green foliage that will not yellow.  Sun-fast rose red, ruffled flowers with a bright green throat are produced on 4-way branched scapes, up to 25 buds per scape.  Height is 2.5 feet and it is a dormant, diploid.

Daylily Firestorm

By Krekler – 1979

Daylily Firestorm

Daylily Firestorm

This really spidery, unusual form variety is huge at 8” and fairly tall at 31”.
A fabulous orange influenced brick red that has an attention grabbing bright yellow eye that spreads in to the halo zone so that the entire center (about 4” is that color).  The Petals sometimes spread out wide as in this picture curling back a bit but other blooms are twisted and pinched in interesting ways. An early mid-season re-bloomer this dormant diploid can also have a crispate edge.
